I was delighted and surprised to read that private label ice cream brands represent the highest gross sales of 1,128.5 billion dollars for the year 2016, surpassing well known brands like Ben & Jerry’s at 465.4 million US dollar sales and Dreyer’s Grand at 251.5 million US dollar sales. Statista.com posted the total ice cream sales at 5.15 billion dollars, a continued growth category. So no surprise that individuals call me wanting to start their own brand of ice cream. The private label segment, represents thousands of small, regional companies with brand names that you may not see available at your local grocery store. This sector is made up of small to medium sized and independently owned companies who market and sell their ice cream products and have it made by an outside dairy manufacturer also known as a co-packer.
Here is a graph put together by Statista showing the brands and sales over a 12 month period.
